Pregnancy Fatigue

Nearly every pregnant woman experiences fatigue during her pregnancy. It is usually worse at the beginning, when hormone levels are increasing and shifting to support the growing baby. As your pregnancy progresses, fatigue usually eases. Rest and relax when you can to help you through this time. Eat right, take your prenatal vitamins and ask your partner for help doing jobs around the house. Avoid sugar and caffeine, which can make fatigue worse.

You may also feel concern about working while you're pregnant. In the past, women were told they couldn't work, but that's changed. With so many women working outside the home, we've been able to study how this activity affects a pregnancy. Studies show that working under normal circumstances, with an uncomplicated pregnancy, does not cause harm to the developing baby, as long as you don't have a job that causes you to stand for exceptionally long periods of time or that requires you to lift or to carry heavy objects. If you have any questions at all about your work, discuss them with your doctor.
