Pregnancy And Older Women.
I've heard in the news about older women having more babies. What is the average age for a woman to give birth in North America? A recent study showed that 27 is the average age at which women give birth. More women give birth in their twenties than at any other age. I’m almost 36 and about 7 weeks' pregnant. Is there anything I should worry about because of my age? Today, more couples are waiting to start their families, so you're not alone There are a few more risks for the older mother-to-be her baby, but it's more likely than ever before that you and your baby will be OK. Risks include Down syndrome in the baby and in the mother, high blood pressure, Cesarean delivery, multiple births, Pre-eclampsia, placental abruption, bleeding and other complications.
I'm 35 and pregnant with my third child. I'm a lot more tired than I remember being before. What's wrong with me? It's simply harder to be pregnant when you're 35 than it is when you're 25. It doesn't necessarily mean anything is wrong; you just have more demands on your time and energy and more to do.
I'm over 35. What are my chances of having a baby with Down syndrome? As you get older, the risk of delivering a baby with Down syndrome increases. - at age 25, the risk is 1 in 1,300 births
- at 30, 1 in 965 births
- at 35, 1 in 365 births
- at 40, 1 in 109 births
- at 45, 1 in 32 births
- at 49, 1 in 12 births
But let's look at it in a more positive light. If you're 45, you have a 97% chance of not having a baby born with Down syndrome. If you're 49, you have a 92% chance of delivering a child without Down syndrome
