Your Pregnancy Health and Medical Concerns. Your health can affect your pregnancy in many ways, if you are in good health before pregnancy, try to maintain it while you're pregnant by eating healthfully, getting enough rest, drinking lots of fluids, taking good care of yourself and keeping all your prenatal appointments.
Even if you begin pregnancy in good health, you may experience some common discomforts as your pregnancy progresses. You may experience nausea (with or without vomiting), frequent urination, fatigue, breast changes and breast tenderness. Don't worry these are common in pregnancy, and luckily they aren't usually serious. You have an incredible effect on the health of your growing baby. As we state in the previous chapter, planning for pregnancy is important. Even more important is how you treat yourself (and the developing fetus) during your pregnancy. Good nutrition, proper exercise, sufficient rest and taking care of yourself all have an impact on your pregnancy.
We cover many aspects of your health care in this chapter, such as what prenatal care is and what kind of care you should expect during pregnancy; choosing whom you want to take care of you; how to deal with morning sickness; how your health affects your baby; some discomforts you may experience; special pregnancy concerns and what to do about pre-existing medical conditions. It's a fairly long chapter, so you may want to read only those parts that concern you at this time. You can read about other areas as they become important to you. To be sure you get the best medical treatment you can during pregnancy, contact your doctor as soon as you believe you might be pregnant.
