Pregnancy Urinary Concerns.I just found out I'm 9 weeks' pregnant, and I have to go to the bathroom all the time. Does this last all through pregnancy? One of the first symptoms of early pregnancy is frequent urination. This problem continues off and on throughout pregnancy; you may have to get up to go to the bathroom at night when you never did before. It usually lessens during the 2nd trimester, then returns during the 3rd trimester, when the growing baby puts pressure on the bladder.
My friend, who is also pregnant, told me she has a urinary-tract infection. She said it's common in pregnancy. Is it? It is more common to get urinary-tract infections during pregnancy. They are also called bladder infections, cystitis and UTIs. How will I know if I have a urinary-tract infection? Symptoms include painful urination, a burning during urination, the feeling of urgency to urinate, blood in the urine and frequent urination.
Can a urinary-tract infection harm my baby? It may be a cause of premature labor and low birth weight infants. If you think you have an infection, call your doctor. If you do have an infection, take the entire prescription of antibiotics prescribed for you.
WAYS TO PREVENT A URINARY-TRACT INFECTION
- Don't hold your urine.
- Empty your bladder as soon as you feel you need to.
- Drink plenty of fluids.
- Cranberry juice helps acidify your urine (kills bacteria) and may help you avoid infections.
- For some women, it helps to urinate after having intercourse.
